Subject: Winner of County Hunter of the Year Award - SSB for 2018 (more)

Message: Kerry Long, W4SIG announced the winner of County Hunter of the Year - SSB award tonight at the MARAC 50th anniversary national convention in Kansas City, MO. This winner was determined by a single nomination for this award made during the announced nomination period from 4/1 through 5/15/18. Since there were no other nominations received from other District Directors, there was no electronic vote conducted for all eligible members to vote on this award.

The winner is: N5MLP (Ron Clift)

The nomination of N5MLP for this award was received from N0KV (Barry Mitchell) who was the South Central District Director during the time the nomination process was in effect.

Below is the justification submitted with the nomination:

"I would also like to nominate N5MLP for SSB CHOTY with justification as outlined below.

Mobile Activity

1. N5MLP made a 24 day trip to Dayton, OH (5/9/17 6/2/17) for the Dayton Hamvention.

During this trip the following SSB activity was generated:
a. States transmitted from: TX, AR, MO, IL, KY, TN, IN, OH, WV (9 states)
b. Bands transmitted on: 20m, 40m, 17m (3 bands)
c. Total counties transmitted from: 273
d. Total QSOs: 3,637

2. N5MLP made a 4 day trip to South TX (8/11/17 8/14/17) solely for the purpose of county hunting activities. During this trip the following SSB and limited CW activity was generated:

a. States transmitted from: TX only
b. Bands transmitted on: 20m, 40m, 17m (3 bands)
c. Total counties transmitted from: 45 counties
d. Total QSOs: 508

3. N5MLP made a 24 day trip to the 2017 MARAC National Convention in Colorado Springs, CO (9/10/17 10/6/17). During this trip the following SSB and limited CW activity was generated:

a. States transmitted from: TX, OK, KS, NE, SD, WY, CO, NM (8 states)
b. Bands transmitted on: 20m, 40m, 17m (3 bands)
c. Total counties transmitted from: 193
d. Total QSOs: 2,239

4. Grand Total During 12 month period:

a. States transmitted from: 18 (includes some duplication of states counted on different trips)
b. Counties transmitted from: 511
c. Days of mobile activity: 47 (out of 52 travel days)
d. QSOs: 6,384

Note: There were also two other trips totaling 15 days in February and March of 2017 that included transmits from 169 counties in 8 states and involved 1,928 QSOs on SSB.
N5MLP was issued RAS awards for AR, OK, CO, and NM during the 12 month period cited in the first paragraph above as shown in the following screenshot from the CH Database:

Service Contributions to MARAC:

1. N5MLP served as MARAC Awards Manager throughout this 12 month period. Functions included:
a. Communications with Awards Committee members and officers regarding awards issues, new awards, changes to existing awards, etc.
b. Creation of three different versions of a spreadsheet which could be utilized for tracking self-credit for mobile/portable activity.
c. Updating of the MS Word document used to publish all MARAC Award Rules to capture all changes/additions since September, 2015 to present.
d. Creation of monthly Awards Committee articles for the RoadRunner newsletter.
e. Analysis of various awards questions/concerns from the MARAC officers.
f. Working with the Awards Secretary to resolve issues or concerns about awards processing.
g. Responding to emails and phone calls from members concerning awards questions, forms, processes, rules, etc.

2. N5MLP hosted a forum on MARAC Awards at the 2017 MARAC National Convention in Colorado Springs, CO."
