Message: A tip of the cap to those trying to work all the counties digital. I think the reason that some, like myself, don't run digital is no room for a pc in the car and the extra time that it takes for digital contacts. I don't even have a pc with me when I go mobile. I just log contacts by hand and record them when I get home. A pc is extra hardware to haul and worry about proper voltage to it, etc. Another issue, is that it takes so long for a digital contact. I can work 10 stations in a minute on CW or SSB and only 1 on digital. When trying to work 4-8 bands on both CW and SSB it already takes half an hour to run a county line. Also, there are so many non-county hunters on FT8 that might call in, the whole digital operation would have me sitting on a county line for an hour. I would rather keep on trucking and run twice as many counties in a day. Also, if I have a passenger in the car, there would be no room to set up the pc/operate digital. Matt, W0NAC, used to do a tremendous job operating digital while mobile. However, he was not in a rush and ran just a few counties a day. He had an excellent permanent setup in his vehicle for digital ops.
