We hear a lot of terms used such as sunspots, CME, K index, solar flux, F layer, etc., but what do they mean, and how can we understand them. What have been the effects of CME’s that have struck the earth? These concepts are presented in an interesting format with the goal of helping us better understand their role. We will also touch on the recent eclipses and their effect. This is a non-technical aid in understanding more advanced presentations Licensed in Ham Radio in 1984 thanks to Don KA7T, Ron Wilcox KF7ZN, had a career with Mountain Bell and is currently retired following a second career as an RN case manager with Intermountain Health/Select Health in Utah. He is active as a member and officer with multiple clubs and associations including the NASA citizen science HamSCI, Utah DX Association, and the Mobile Amateur Radio Awards Club (MARAC) among others. Ron is active as a Volunteer Examiner (VE), serving on convention committees and an Assistant Emergency Coordinator. He is a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and HamSCI speaker’s bureau, with frequent presentations to clubs and conventions. He has been published in Spectrum Monitor (Feature/cover article), National Contest Journal (NCJ), CQ magazine, a regular contributor for the HamSCI newsletter, and co-author for Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences. He loves being with his family while being active in church, music, family history, and fishing. It is less than one mile away. 6:30 pm Dinner – Pasta Bar     Along with dinner we will have a guest speaker. Dr. Michael Sheehan Dr. Sheehan was the Cultural Resources Program Lead for the Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office from 2011 through 2025. Dr. Sheehan received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1991. Since then, he has been active in academia, the private sector, and most recently, the public sector. He has done fieldwork in many parts of the United States and has published on a variety of topics ranging from prehistoric subsistence strategies to the archaeology of the Transcontinental Railroad. The work he and his colleagues have done on the Transcontinental Railroad has received awards from the Department of the Interior and the Society for American Archaeology. Saturday: Breakfast – everyone on their own 9:30 – 10:20 Presentation by Bob Carter WR7Q. Session Title: History of Morse Code Career in Data Processing from programming to management. Lived in Alaska, Louisiana and currently reside in Salt Lake City. Served in various board positions for Utah DX Association (UDXA), currently on the Board. Confirmed 326 entities, WAZ CW, 8BDXCC. Got into ham radio at age 59. Primary focused on using Morse Code. Which was a real challenge to learn at that age. Have given many presentations on “How to Learn Morse Code”, including Visalia 2017, Rocky Mountain Hamfest 2008, 2012 and 2015; and Great Salt Lake Hamfest 2016. Currently an Advisor and Administrator for CW Academy – CWOPS.org, (probably the best path to learning Morse Code, at any age). Can send and receive comfortably at 25 wpm. 11:00 – 11:50 Presentation Jed Petrovich AD7KG     Portable antennas 12:00 – 1:30 Lunch – everyone on their own 2:00 – 3:00 MARAC Board meeting (longer if needed) The rest of the afternoon will be open People can attend the Harvest Moon celebration- Live music, fall-themed photo stations, rock climbing, axe throwing or visit the Union Pacific Railroad museum.
